Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based on the Suffolk coast at two popular, historic visitor destinations: The Red House and Snape Maltings. We emerged from the creative partnership of Benjamin Britten, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, and his professional and personal partner, singer Peter Pears.

Britten and Pears shared a progressive vision for music and the arts to be useful and our Community Programmes seek to fulfil this by engaging with communities throughout East Suffolk and beyond. We do this through participatory heritage and music projects delivered in a variety of settings, currently focused on five areas: Families, Schools, Young People, Later Life and Criminal Justice.

This Programmes Assistant role supports the Community team with the day-to-day delivery of our work with young people in various locations; in schools, on our sites and in community settings, as well as supporting the delivery of Friday Afternoons, a project that provides accessible resources to support singing and songwriting in schools. It is an exciting role that utilises a variety of skills, including logistics and organisation, effective communication, data management and collaborative working. This is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave.

In particular, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people (paid or unpaid)
  • Has good computer skills
  • Has good attention to detail
  • Is methodical and organised
  • Is able to remain calm under pressure
  • Is a confident communicator
  • Is able to work flexible hours (including some weekends) as dictated by project activity
  • Is able to travel independently to locations within the community

We are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches us. We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds, in particular from minority ethnic backgrounds and disabled candidates who are currently under-represented at Britten Pears Arts.

As part of our commitment to equality of opportunity, we kindly ask you to complete our Equality and Diversity Monitoring Form.

To apply for this role please send a completed application form FAO Rebecca Whittaker, HR Advisor – careers@brittenpearsarts.org.
