Ryan Wigglesworth directs the Knussen Chamber Orchestra in two Elliot Carter song cycles and chamber works by Mozart.

This special Aldeburgh Festival programme includes the European premiere of Three Explorations by the leading 20th-century American composer Elliott Carter, who said of the piece: “Throughout my life I have been a great admirer of T.S. Eliot’s poetry and criticism. So when I decided to set some of his work I chose his late poems and parts of his Four Quartets. The texts being meditative I decided to use winds and brass to accompany the bass baritone.”

Mozart's Serenade and Quintet offer a fine counterpoint, with their elegance, poise and beauty.

Formed in memory of the legendary British composer Oliver Knussen, the Knussen Chamber Orchestra is drawn together by conductor Ryan Wigglesworth, and features the budding talent of students and recent graduates alongside established professional musicians.
