The wonderfully varied programme ranges from Britten folksongs to Elgar's bewitching Romance, and includes popular orchestral showpieces such as Shostakovich's Festive Overture and Eric Coates' rousing Knightsbridge March. It also features a number of works for bassoon solo, including Fučík's delightfully characterful The Old Grumbly Bear. The evening is presented by Katie Derham and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 at a later date, and will then also be available on BBC Sounds.
