Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering Music & Arts based charity, situated on the beautiful Suffolk coast, working across a wide range of activities. Music-related charitable work includes Artist Development, a year-round Performance Programme, Music in the Community and Creative Health and our Living Heritage Museum and Archive at The Red House.

Our mission is to use Music, Arts & Heritage to transform people’s lives for the better, to bring communities together and effect positive social change. BPA continues to follow in the footsteps of founders Britten and Pears, inspired by their goal to make the arts useful and available to all. At our two internationally recognised cultural destinations; Snape Maltings and The Red House, we create vibrant, uplifting and life-enhancing experiences for visitors, customers and audiences alike. We deliver this vision through our remarkable people and brilliant inclusive teams, working together with a sense of purpose.

Our values guide all of BPA’s activities, and our working culture. A Pioneering sense of creativity, openness to new possibilities and the courage to take initiative. A Collaborative spirit, knowing the power of teamwork, inclusivity, mutual support and challenge. The Rigorous pursuit of excellence, ambition to go the extra mile, and attention to detail. Empowering people to learn, grow, find their potential and inspire others.

This is a newly created role, and with a Capital Project underway, to improve accessibility and update the Britten Pears Building at Snape Maltings, it’s an exciting time to be joining us.

An important part of this role will be to explore opportunities and practices which will enable us to reach the largest number of children, families and young people, and to offer relevant projects and programmes. Our ethos is to empower young people by providing formal and informal learning opportunities for families, children and schools – including teachers – and there is significant scope for the postholder to explore, test and innovate within this strategically important strand of work.

Is this role for me?

We’re looking for an experienced arts manager who will bring their extensive experience of working with, and for, children, families and young people, and in particular in music education. You will understand the breadth and scope of the role and will be keen to integrate the programme into other work that BPA delivers, whether it is with emerging artists, our year-round performance programme or engagement with our heritage and archive.

Whilst this won’t be your first role managing and overseeing large and sometimes complex projects, we don’t necessarily expect you to have been a Head of Department before. However, it’s crucial that you bring excellent people management skills to develop, inspire and lead a talented team to deliver its best work.

We are an equal opportunities employer and believe that diversity strengthens and enriches us. We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates of all ages and from all backgrounds, in particular from minority ethnic backgrounds and disabled candidates who are currently under-represented at Britten Pears Arts.

The role is Suffolk-based with limited scope for hybrid working.

If you would like an informal chat about this role please contact our Director, Music and Heritage – Caro Barnfield cbarnfield@brittenpearsarts.org. To apply please send a covering letter and application form to our HR Team – careers@brittenpearsarts.org
