Group bookings at The Red House
The Red House is located in a private residential area on the outskirts of Aldeburgh. The site consists of a house, parts of which date back to the 17th Century, a purpose-built Archive building, a reception and exhibition area and a beautiful garden. We welcome groups of all interests and sizes. This page offers all the information you need before making an enquiry.
Britten Pears Arts maintains, conserves and develops The Red House as a major heritage site and through exhibitions, events, concerts and visits encourages people to learn more about the life and work of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears.
Prices
£11 per person, available Mondays to Sundays (max. group 48): A self-guided visit including the downstairs rooms of the house, library, composition studio, exhibitions, and garden.
£15 per person, preferably Mondays to Wednesdays but other days may be possible (groups from 8 to 32 max.): Special guided tour of the house, library, composition studio and Archive.
Extras can include coffee, cake and light lunches or a talk or special tour of the garden. Please enquire for prices.
If you have a particular request, please specify on the enquiry form.
Coach Parking
There is no coach parking on site.
The Red House is located on a small uneven track and there is no access for coaches to drop off or park near the house itself. Coach parties need to be dropped at the end of the lane, and then it is a short walk of approximately 350 yards to the site. For those unable to walk, transport up the lane can be arranged with advance notice.
Bags
Due to narrow corridors in the house and library we ask visitors to put large bags in lockers in the reception area. There are a limited number of lockers, so we recommend large groups leave their bags on the coach.
Refreshments
Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available from the reception café. We have a small seating area for 8 people in the reception area and seating available in the garden. We are also able to arrange refreshments for groups who book in advance in the delightful Imogen Holst Room underneath the composition studio which has a seating capacity for a maximum of 24 people at any one time.
Additional Information
The visiting season is between March-October, and to experience the garden in full bloom it is best to visit in April-August. Over the winter months access to the house may be limited due to scheduled conservation work. If you are unsure about the best time for your group to visit please enquire by completing the form below.
Access
The Red House has level access for most of the site apart from the upstairs of the house and the composition studio. Further information about accessibility can be found here: Accessibility at our venues.
