Group bookings at The Red House

We welcome groups of all interests and sizes to The Red House, Aldeburgh. This page offers all the information you need before making an enquiry.

Britten Pears Arts maintains, conserves and develops The Red House as a major heritage site and through exhibitions, events, concerts and visits encourages people to learn more about the life and work of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears.

We are happy to offer a variety of ways for groups to experience the site and to tailor the visit to meet the needs and interests of the group. This could include, for example, a focus on Britten’s music, an art tour or a closer look at the garden.

The format of the visit can take the form of: Self-guided visit including the downstairs rooms of the house, library, composition studio, the gallery, and garden. £8.50 per person, available Mondays to Sundays, for groups up to 48 max.

Special guided tour of the House, Library, Composition Studio and Archive. £10 per person, available Mondays to Wednesdays, for groups between 8 and 32 max.

Extras can include coffee, cake and light lunches or a talk or special tour of the garden. Please enquire for prices.

If you have a particular request please specify on the booking form.

Coach Parking

There is no coach parking on site.

The Red House is located on a small track and there is no access for coaches to drop off or park near the House itself. Coach parties need to be dropped at the end of the lane, and then it is a short walk of approximately 350 yards to the site. For those unable to walk, transport up the lane can be arranged with advanced notice. Coaches can be parked in one of three bays in the Fort Green car park at the end of the High Street in Aldeburgh (open 10am-10pm, no charge).

Bags

Due to narrow corridors in the House and Library we ask visitors to put large bags in lockers in the reception area. There are a limited number of lockers so we recommend large groups leave bags on the coach.

Refreshments

Hot and cold drinks, cakes and takeaway lunches are available from The Red Hut garden café, overlooking the croquet lawn on Thursdays to Sundays.

We are also able to arrange tea and cake for groups who book in advance. Seating is available in the garden or indoors and picnicking is welcome.

Additional Information

The visiting season is between March-October, and to experience the Garden in full bloom it is best to visit in April-August. Over the winter months access to the House may be limited at times. If you are unsure about the best time for your group to visit please enquire by completing the form below.

Access

The Red House is wheelchair accessible to all areas in the downstairs of the house.
