AYM quotes
I would never have had the confidence to go into the professional music world without AYM, it's been the best possible thing for my musical development.
AYM made me the musician and person I am today. I owe almost all of my development across four years to the programme, which facilitates all sorts of ideas and plans in a totally non-judgemental space
Cost and funding
Fees are applicable for AYM, but we are proud that a large majority of our AYM community benefits from some form of financial support.
The fee per student for the academic year 2024/25 is £3340. Fees can either be paid in a lump sum at the start of the academic year, in three termly instalments or over ten months, by a monthly standing order.
It is important that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of young artists joining Aldeburgh Young Musicians. Students who are offered a place at AYM can apply for means-tested grants from the Department for Education’s Music and Dance scheme to support the cost of the programme. Anyone can apply to be a part of AYM, regardless of their financial circumstances. The grant covers all aspects of the programme.
To give an indication of the financial support available through the MDS Scheme, the below financial thresholds can act as a guide. The threshold figures for the academic year 2024/25 will not be confirmed until Summer 2024.
MDS Full Grant covering all fees (Combined household income below £32,728)
MDS Part Grant (Combined household income of £32,729 - £72,003)
To qualify for a National Grant the applicant must have been resident in the British Islands for three years prior to application, be a member of the European Economic Area or Switzerland or be a refugee or the child of a refugee (conditions apply).
Students are also encouraged to apply to become a Leverhulme Musical Scholar. Scholarships are awarded up to the amount of £2500.
