Britten Pears Arts has been a very important part in the development of my career - and I attended many of the courses as a student with opportunities to connect with other artists around the world. My Grandmother lived in Aldeburgh - so I heard about the school despite being brought up in South Africa.
The early courses were repertoire specific (Schumann, Mahler, Strauss) which were immersive and amazing. Normally you don’t get that space to immerse in a composer and your peers interpretations too. Then I came back as a teacher in 2019. I had to pinch myself that I was coming back as a teacher and it was Britten’s song cycles with Mark Padmore and Julia Falkner. Sometimes it takes coming back to a place to see how you have developed.
