Soprano Rebecca Hardwick worked on an interpretation of Kurtág’s seminal work Kafka Fragments (1986), paired with Junk Lectures (2016) by Oliver Brignall, both for voice and violin. Kurtág’s 40 fleeting ‘microscores’ present an existential study on the extremities of life based on extracts from Kafka’s diaries. Junk Lectures, a companion piece to the Kurtág, reflects these themes, considering the effects of hoarding and waste in modern culture.
