Theo Alexander is a Chinese-Malay/British composer. His music often features deliberately synthetic elements, such as heavily-processed cassette recordings or two dimensional sounding electronic instruments, which are blended in a delicate balance with live, organic parts. Thematically, his recent work concentrates on the crisis of human attempts to relate to and interpret the external world.

The Residency programme provides artists with time, space, and resources to play, experiment and make new work over four weeks with mentoring and support from both Britten Pears Arts and The Art Station, Saxmundham. During this residency, Theo will develop and research a new performance piece that explores the limits of human control at the junction of technology, work, and automation. Specifically, he will be experimenting with new applications of outdated recording formats that he has worked with throughout his career.
