Our 2023 collection of songs were all written with young people, and focus on a theme of identity. The text for this song is by Anjali Surti, age 16. Shruthi Rajasekar chose the poem from the Friday Afternoons Song Lyric Writing Challenge. This a competition we ran with The Poetry Society’s Young Poets Network, an online platform for young poets up to the age of 25.

This is a musically challenging song with a text that explores themes of gender and sexuality, and is therefore recommended for secondary aged students.
