Join Xhosa Cole and drummer Mark Sanders, as they create a one-off collaboration between saxophone, drums and sea.

The sea is one of the most powerful forces on earth and we’re all familiar with its wonderful music. Xhosa Cole will be joined by drummer Mark Sanders and the sounds of the Aldeburgh coast for this immersive experience – a collaboration between three powerful voices.

Winner of the 2018 BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year, Xhosa Cole follows a long tradition of Birmingham saxophonists that includes Soweto Kinch and Shabaka Hutchings. Xhosa has performed twice at the BBC Proms, and received the Parliamentary Jazz Award for best newcomer in 2019 and Jazz FM breakthrough act of the year in 2020.

Mark Sanders
Mark's career has taken in many musical styles and genres, all of which now inform his current focus on free improvisation. He is a frequent collaborator in cross-genre projects involving theatre, dance, contemporary classical, and conceptual art, and he has worked regularly with the likes of Roscoe Mitchell, Wadada Leo Smith, Derek Bailey, Henry Grimes and Roswell Rudd, as well as with his own group StaggerLee Wonders.
