A special chamber-music recital that combines a world premiere with classics by Schumann and Beethoven, in the company of one of the world’s finest exponents of the French horn.

Ben Goldscheider has premiered over 50 new works for the horn, and on Sunday 22 June gives the world premiere of the leading contemporary composer Brian Elias’ horn concerto, written for him. Today sees the first performance of Sometimes, also written by Elias for Goldscheider, and dedicated to him. The composer writes: “Sometimes it is not easy to find a suitable title for an abstract piece of music, hence the title of this short work for Horn and Piano”.

The Red House Library recital, in which leading musicians can be seen and heard up close in a historic environment, also includes Poulenc’s haunting Elegie and the virtuosic Horn Sonata of Beethoven.
