Mozart's ahead-of-its-time string quartet and sextets from Tchaikovsky and Gavin Higgins.

The Piatti Quartet makes a welcome return to the Festival playing Mozart’s quartet, famous for the sensuous sound-world of its slow movement, which seems to point the way towards the music of later composers such as Wagner. The Piattis are joined by Sara Roberts and David Cohen to perform two sextets. Like Mozart, Gavin Higgins’ piece takes us into new sound worlds, while Tchaikovsky's is one of the most popular chamber pieces of the late-19th century.
