This Open Session presents work-in-progress from dance company Thick & Tight, who will create a solo performance for dancer Annie Edwards during their Residency.

Thick & Tight is exploring queer ecology, challenging exclusionary ‘natural’ vs. ‘unnatural’ binaries. They aim to understand how nature influences queer artists, and how marginalisation affects their sense of belonging in the natural world. They will research birdsong-inspired music and translate it into choreography, resulting in 'Dying Song', a contemplation on the exquisite sounds of nature that are in danger of being lost forever.

How does birdsong influence an artist's work and life? How does the marginalisation experienced by queer artists impact their sense of belonging in the natural world? And how can those experiences inform a work about the loss of the natural world?

Our Residencies programme provides time and space for creators at all stages of their careers. A supportive environment to create, be curious, and try out new ideas. We welcome all sorts of genres and art-forms.

Most Residencies culminate in an Open Session, which is a unique chance for you to go behind the scenes and experience work-in-progress.
