Short "night pieces" by composers including Dowland, Schubert, Britten, Florence Price and Cole Porter, culminating in Schoenberg's beautiful early masterpiece, Transfigured Night.

Composers have been writing "night pieces" for at least 500 years, evoking stillness, softness and intimate moods as darkness draws in. Nicola Benedetti and the outstanding musicians of Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective play a sequence of short night pieces by composers from Dowland to Schubert, Britten, Florence Price and Cole Porter, before embarking on Schoenberg's beautiful early masterpiece for string sextet, which tells the story of a night that starts in turbulent darkness and ends in radiant light.
