Reflective music for flute, viola, and harp by Bax and Ravel is combined with Saariaho’s New Gates and a recent work by Imogen Davey.

Each movement of Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin was written in memory of a friend of the composer who had died in World War I, while Bax wrote his Elegiac Trio in the aftermath of the Easter Rising of 1916. They are combined with Saariaho’s New Gates, music which sounds as if it’s moving towards gates, opening them, and showing us new landscapes beyond – and with Imogen Davey’s STRATA, written for Trio Farben.

Formed at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2019, Trio Farben celebrates both the individuality and compatibility of this unique ensemble of instruments, working with composers on new works and rediscovering forgotten gems.
