A fascinating illustrated discussion of the great baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, his close association with the Aldeburgh Festival, and his mentoring of today’s celebrated baritone Benjamin Appl.

This session brings together James Baillieu and Benjamin Appl – who holds an archive of documents, memories, and anecdotes – with specialists from the Britten Pears Archive, itself a repository of living heritage with objects concerning Fischer-Dieskau’s relationship with Britten, Pears and the Festival that they founded. It promises an illuminating and lively experience for both audience and speakers.

As so often in the Festival, here we capture a sense of musicians passing on their craft from one generation to another.
