Film: Zemlya
A screening at The Riverside in Woodbridge of the Ukrainian film Earth (Zemlya) with live improvisation from silent-film pianist Daan van den Hurk.
Earth is celebrated as one of cinema’s supreme visual masterpieces. The immensity of the sky bears down on the Ukrainian steppe as the arrival of a tractor signals a fundamental change to a centuries-old way of life. The film is notable for its extraordinarily potent images of wheat fields, ripe fruit and weather-beaten faces.
