A special Festival Walk in the company of author Zoe Gilbert, getting creative with words among the woods.

Zoe’s first novel Folk inspired the major new Helen Grime piece on 15 June. Her second novel Mischief Acts takes place in a real English wood and is about the myths we need, enchantment and disenchantment, freedom, and our complicated relationship with the natural world.

In this Festival Walk, we journey into the ancient Tunstall Forest for a morning exploration that will bring us into closer contact with nature, during which we will collect and play with words – whatever that might mean to us in that moment.

Through it we will find afresh the links between landscape, folklore, and words – and the place where in Zoe’s words “we’re no longer in right angles and straight lines”. It is a place of creativity and connection which Festivalgoers can access through this open and warmly inviting expedition.

The schedule for the day is:

9.30am Coach departs from Snape Maltings

9.45am Walk starts in Tunstall Forest (3.5 miles on easy paths; please wear suitable footwear)

1pm Coach arrives back at Snape Maltings.
