Centenary celebrations of Pierre Boulez and Luciano Berio with this splendid wind quintet, whose inventive programme also contains a new commission and Salonen’s memorial to Berio himself.

The Berio Sequenza is a tour de force for the solo flute, while his playful and virtuosic Ricorrenze is a brilliant work for the whole quintet.

Boulez dedicated his “Dialogue d’ombre double” to Berio on his 60th birthday. The clarinetist records a tape which is played back in performance while they add a live element too.

We are delighted to feature a new commission for this occasion and ensemble from the leading composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad.

Ensemble Renard comprises five of the country’s most outstanding young musicians. Together, they exist to explore a wide range of timbral possibilities within modern day chamber performance. Ensemble Renard’s frequent collaboration with composers and guest instrumentalists allows them to showcase a prismatic variety of colours.
