Come & Play: Recorder
Recorder players of all ages and abilities: come and take part in this workshop, led by Rebecca Austen-Brown.
The workshop is about the joy of sharing music and playing together, and there will be parts and options for all abilities. Feel free to bring your own instrument, though descant recorders will be available for all to use for free.
The event celebrates the 70th anniversary of Benjamin Britten's Alpine Suite, which Britten wrote in 1955 while holidaying in the Swiss mountain resort of Zermatt with Peter Pears and the artist Mary Potter. Mary Potter fell and injured her leg on the first day of the holiday, so was confined to the hotel. Pears, Potter and Britten were competent recorderists, so the composer felt that a short piece of music for three recorders (2 descant and 1 treble) that the three of them could play, would be a good idea. And so it was created.
