Byron Wallen is a seminal figure in world jazz, and Nick Ramm has worked with Adele, Tom Jones and Joss Stone. Black Flag is their new live jazz project, created as a response to the photography of Annabel Elgar.

Black Flag reflects many years of collaboration on trumpet and piano. Originally commissioned by the Jerwood Foundation, it has just been released on record, and this is their first date on tour.

Byron Wallen has received the BBC Jazz Innovation Award, has been nominated several times for the MOBOs and received a Paul Hamlyn Composers Award in 2017. He is an acclaimed writer and producer whose original scores have been commissioned by the Science Museum, BBC, Southbank Centre, National Theatre, FIFA and Sage Gateshead. He has composed soundscapes for Universal Pictures, Warner Bros and Game of Thrones. His current projects involve his Gamelan ensemble, focusing on the music of Boards of Canada and Kraftwerk through the lens of the Javanese Gamelan.

Nick Ramm gained a wealth of experience as a pianist playing with Jim Mullen, Tony Kofi, Finn Peters and Dave Okumu among many others. As a composer and producer he is working with Grounded Movement’s new show Ragtime To Grime. His notable credits include working with Adele and The Cinematic Orchestra and he co-wrote with Joss Stone on her album Water For Your Soul.
