Benedetti, Simpson, van der Heijden and Poster perform Messiaen's otherworldly masterpiece, Quartet for the End of Time, written as a prisoner in a German WWII camp.

Messiaen wrote much of the Quartet for the End of Time while being held in a prisoner of war camp in Germany, the first performance given by fellow prisoners. Messiaen's cataclysmic music, with a soaring ray of hope running through it, takes on an additional resonance today, particularly for those that hear Anna Thorvaldsdottir's Catamorphosis earlier that evening.
